Lipstick and Good Living

I’m having a surprisingly hard time remembering the order of the letters in the alphabet, I’m sad to report.  As I work my way through the list writing a daily blog for each letter, I really have to think which letter is next.  Is that some sign of aging, another fantastic side-effect of having survived this long?  I mean, seriously, the alphabet.  Soon I’ll be forced to sign the alphabet song to figure out what’s next.   But I digress.

L is for Lipstick, both Lipstick and lipsticks actually.  I do love a fine lipstick and on a no make-up day, sunglasses and lipstick are really a girl’s best friend.  But, of course, today I’m really grateful for my beloved cat, Lipstick.  She’s had a vet appointment today for a check-up on her hyperthyroidism, which between vet visits and pet meds is slowly sending me to the poor house.  But it’s worth it, of course, to keep my baby healthy. Although her actual birthday is unknown to me, I’m guessing she’s about 13-14 and I really, really need her to keep on keeping on.  She’s the gift that keeps on giving.  The quiet, persistent presence who cuddles up near me as though I’m her very favorite person — ever.  Actually, she’s a bit like me– demanding, entitled, finicky and independent, but once she’s love you, she is the warmest, most tender and loyal soul you’ll encounter.

I’m also grateful today for good living.  Sitting with friends tonight at dinner, I was reminded how good I have it and how the best way to celebrate this wonderful life I’ve been given is just to live it.  Pay attention to the good stuff and try to get through the bad.  Take it easy and enjoy the journey.  That’s what I’m doing today.  Join me.
