The sweet spot. You know that magical mix of enough sleep and enough exercise and enough work and enough companionship. That’s the spot I’m grateful for today. It’s not the best day I’ve ever had, but it is solidly a good one. This is the spot where I want to live, the spot I want to last forever.
Of course, it never does. Life happens and with it, I’m bombarded by people who need tending, projects that need completing, and problems that need solving. I try to do my best in all these areas and sometimes I do well.
Other times, I feel like a boat tethered to the dock in a storm, pounded time and time again as a new waves crashes into me. Emotions roll over me and with each, I’m taken on another ride of highs and lows of life. It can be exhilarating and it can be exhausting. But it is living.
On a friends recommendation, I’ve just started listening to a meditation podcast called “Live Awake.” The podcasters voice soothes me as she floats words over her listeners, but I’m most intrigued by the title. Live. Awake. Live. Awake.
Live life. Be awake. That means sometimes my life is full of joy and energy and pleasure and satisfaction and other times not so much. But by practicing being awake for it all, I’m better able to savor the good times.
So if you can relate, then mark this spot. Figure out what worked to get you to that moment of peace. Remember what you did, so if you get lost among the twists and turns of life, you can find your way back. Every time.
