I intended to entitle this blog the Grateful Trekker and write it after the 5 mile Boulevard Bolt here in Nashville. But, one of my nieces got sick in the car on the way. Her mother left earlier with the running contingent so I sent her sisters off with another member of our tribe. And I’m on sick duty. You don’t get elected favorite aunt of all time without some sacrifice along the way and this is a a minor one. The good news is that now I have longer to ruminate on this year’s adventures, all of which I’m grateful for on this fine Thanksgiving morning.
Starting off my list of adventures has to be our two week family trip to Italy this summer. The Vatican, the Colosseum, racing around Parque Borghese with the family, a three van caravan through the Tuscan hillsides, and relaxing in our picturesque garden while watching little gladiators battle it out. Pure delight. When I combine that with my trip to Peru last December and my European jaunt planned for this December, it must be concluded that I get around. I do love to travel.
Closer to home, I count my hiking adventures among my favorite things. Huddart park, the Dish, Baylands, Half Moon Bay, Montebello and let’s not forget the grueling Mission Peak excursion. I’m so grateful for my fellow trekkers whose friendship, laughter and encouragement never fails to lift my spirits and fill my tank. Tip top of my athletic feat list is the 7mile Bay to Breakers walk where seven of us cruised through San Francisco as the 7 Deadly Sinners, with our sin proudly displayed on our backs. My sin is Pride and you wouldn’t believe how many people asked me if that was really a deadly sin. Gotta love Silicon Valley!! Between the numerous naked walkers and the hundreds of people dressed as Trump Against Humanity cards, that trek was an absolute blast.
Concerts, theatre, book group, movies, musicals and parties galore filled in the rest of my social calendar, augmented by canvassing for Clinton in Nevada and meeting Tim Keane on the civic side. My how time flies.
My relief team is here and I’m off for a quick run before it’s time to take on another big family meal. I need to carb load up in preparation for another hilarious family game night. Pictionary and reverse charades require lots of energy.
I’m sending out all my best wishes for a very happy day for all my loyal readers. I’ve so loved sharing this blog with you and I’m very grateful for anyone who is still reading it. For those who may stressed or sad, remember there’s another name for Thanksgiving: Thursday. It is just another day. Make it a good one.
