I don’t know about you, but when the time comes to set our clocks back an hour, I feel like I’m getting away with something slightly illicit. No matter how many times I’ve done it, I can never seem to remember whether this particular alarm clock will automatically reset itself or not. I could risk it since I didn’t really have to be anywhere until noon on Sunday. When I awoke, I thought it had already reset itself and I went about my business until I realized it hadn’t. It was like winning the lottery. A luxurious additional hour stolen from who knows where to do with as I chose. Funny how an hour can make a huge difference between rushing to get somewhere on time and a leisurely Sunday morning to perform some routine tasks around my house and still get where I was going.
To be honest, once I get my free hour, my enjoyment of Daylight Saving Time ends. Days start getting so short and soon 5:30pm looks like time to put on my quitters (my family’s name for that outfit that says you aren’t leaving your house again today) and tuck in. I’m so far north in California that toward December the sunlight is gone by 4:30ish and I don’t like that at all.
But for today, I’m satisfied with the system, not that anyone asked me. I got an extra hour of sleep (again today somehow). My garbage is out, my laundry is done, my bills are paid and my litter box is empty. Check, check, check. I’m on roll and it’s not even 10:00am yet. It’s the little things in life!
BTW — I had to borrow a fall image to share. California overflows with natural beauty, but nothing compares to the changing color of fall leaves back East. Absolutely nothing. Enjoy.
